SLED ISLAND 2010
Friday, July 02, 2010 — Olympic Plaza, Downtown Calgary, AB
Festival Season again kicks off in Canada as the snow is finally gone, if only for a few weeks, the dog sleds are put away, the igloos are turning into ice chunks in our coolers but now – we have the need – to keep our drinks cold as summer turns up the heat and brings out the best talent, the greatest audiences –and my personal favorite time of year.
At this time we are please to announce we will be the Audio and Lighting Suppliers for Sled Island as it takes over Olympic Plaza and showcases many, many great artists. For this reason, we are also showcasing our best, Martin Audio, Yamaha Digital, Radial Engineering, and the list goes on – let’s get deeper into the audio side of Sledfest.
Front Of House and monitors will be mixed from Yamaha’s M7CL Console with the most recent updated Software from Yamaha through this link and available for you at any time.
All speaker Enclosures are manufactured by Martin Audio and are the W8LM Enclosures and powered by Martin Audio MA 2.8s amplifiers as made by Lab Gruppen. The Sub Woofers are manufactured by Turbosound and are the THL828.2 Enclosures. These will be powered by the Martin 4.2s amplifiers. We will be doing a single 8 over 4 hang per side flown off the Milos MRT 1 Tower Assemblies.
All Processing will be accomplished by XTA/Turbosound LMS-D6 processors. Cabling will be supplied for all connections and we are very pleased to use Radial Convertibles, Stage Bugs, Roadsters, and only use 150 pin Veam, and 12 pair CPC mutlipins. This allows a very quick and consistent patch for any touring application, and also allows a quicker and more cost effective solution for festival set up and tear downs thus allowing your labor costs to be kept moderate.
We also have a great side fill or front fill system that is again comprised of Martin Audio components. This currently is a pair of Martin Audio WMX subs that are also flyable, but for this application we have them ground stacked and pinned together with a Martin W8LMD Down Fill Enclosure pinned to the top sub woofer box for a great coverage pattern with a very small footprint. For this festival and in this application, we will be using this system as front fill.
All Eight mixes on stage will be handled through the Yamaha M7CL Console as mentioned above. All wedges will again be the Martin Audio LE1200 enclosures as power from QSC amplifiers and processed through Ashly Protea Processing. The Drum fill position will be filled with two Turbosound TQ440SP enclosures for a left right configuration and a double loaded 15” self powered TQ425SP enclosure for some low-end thump. We will also be using another pair of these for side fill on the nose of the stage – the left and right down stage edges to complete the full stage sound coverage requirements to meet any artist’s requirements.
All Stage Inputs will be accomplished through the Radial Engineering Convertible Stage Head which allows both the front of house console and monitor console to have the same input layout and all conveniently done through the VEAM 150 Pin Connectors and Nuetrik XLR cable ends terminated at the consoles to allow a soft patch option if required for any reason. This is accomplished through the Radial Engineering Dogsled that is required for all broadcast feeds of FOH feeds but the Monitor position has a direct feed from the head thus not requiring the extra connections.
The Microphone selection will include the very popular Shure Beta 58a Series for vocals, and the industry standard SM 57 for multiple applications from Snares, Guitar Amps, additional percussion inputs, or acoustic guitar inputs if required. Along with the other Shure Microphones supplied will be one of my favorites for kick drums of any size, the Shure Beta 52 for the outside of the head and the Beta 91 inside. Keeping in the same brands for one more application will be the Shure SM81 Condenser for applications of overheads, hi hats, and again area microphones for acoustic guitars, mandolins, or accordions if required.
We are also very pleased to supply one of the most sought after multiple purpose microphones – the Sennheiser E604 cardioid dynamic instrument microphone
which will be used for the toms as required.
One of the other brand names are we are pleased to have on the site with us are the makers of the C-600 condenser, Clock Audio.
These microphones are great for overheads and high hats, or anything that requires a full spectrum of sound with great clarity and sizzle, but not missing the thump that a well-designed condenser is able to produce.
All our direct boxes are from the same folks that make our snakes and cable systems. Radial Engineering products will be used for the line to mic input requirements from keyboards with the passive direct boxes, the green JDI products.
For all active direct box application from acoustic guitars or other custom instruments that require more gain for best quality reproduction, we are pleased to have the Blue J48 Direct boxes on stage for these. For any inputs from a computer or other MP3 playback device – we are very, very pleased with the JPC products for this application. For any quarter inch input heading to the balanced inputs of the snake configuration, these products will be in line for best sound reproduction possibilities.
With this information you can see the products we are pleased to have on site to ensure your performance is not hindered by any technical issue. We don’t just have great equipment on site, but also have great staff to produce the sound, the tones, the experiences you need on stage to connect ensure your performance rivals your best in the past. We are very pleased to be sharing this experience with you at Sled Island 2010.
With this brief overview of the system, please know we are fully supporting Sledfest and their management to make this festival – the best experience for all involved. We are pleased to work with you on the top of July – let’s make it memorable, let’s make it the best for all involved, the staff, the audience, the technicians, and mostly – the talented artist that are coming to be part of this festival.
